About Nailsworth

History
Nailsworth is a market town in Gloucestershire, England, lying in one of the Stroud Valleys in the Cotswolds. It has a population of around 6,600 people (2005) and lies on the A46 road. In ancient times it was a settlement at the confluence of the Avening Valley and the Woodchester Valley, on the Nailsworth Stream; among many notable historic buildings of medieval times in the area notable are Beverston Castle and Owlpen Manor. In the modern era Nailsworth was a mill town and centre for brewing. It was connected directly to the UK national rail network between 1867 and 1947 with a station that was the terminus of the Stonehouse and Nailsworth Railway. These days Nailsworth is visited in the summer by walkers, and holds a Farmers' Market every fourth Saturday in the month. Local events like the market and the Nailsworth Festival are announced by the Town Crier. Nailsworth is a Fairtrade Town. Nailsworth is twinned with the French village of Lèves and an exchange visit takes place every year alternating between Nailsworth and Lèves. Forest Green Rovers are the biggest football club playing in Nailsworth and currently play in the Blue Square Conference National, one level below The Football League.

Local Area
Above Nailsworth is the beautiful National Trust Land of Minchinhampton Common which extends to approximately 650 acres and from where there are glorious views over the surrounding valleys. Set amidst it is a golf course although there are two professional courses at Minchinhampton Golf Club which overlooks Gatcombe Park. Other recreational activities include gliding at Aston Down, sailing and windsurfing at The Cotswold Water Park, polo at Westonbirt and Cirencester as well as many lovely walks throughout the area. A picturesque wooded cycle path runs from the property to Stroud along the River Frome.

Housing stock
In Nailsworth itself, houses are predominantly a wide mix from the original Cotswold stone detached homes to town centre apartments: perfect for families and young professionals. There are several hamlets and surrounding villages which offer a greener landscape with outstanding views. Whatever it is you are looking for – We can help you find it.

Facilities
Nailsworth is a popular local town, fashionable yet family friendly with plenty to entertain. There are coffee shops, cafés, restaurants and public houses, alongside the renowned mouth-watering Williams Fish Market & Food Hall and Hobbs House Bakery. The town itself offers full amenities; banks, post office, butchers', supermarket and grocery shops, doctors, dentists and a public library. There are also a wonderfully diverse selection of boutiques and shops, salons, antiques & furniture shops and galleries for local crafts-people which have an annual arts festival.

These include Beaudesert Park Preparatory School, Stroud High Grammar School for girls, Marling School, Wycliffe College, Westonbirt School for girls as well as the Cheltenham schools and colleges. Nailsworth hosts its own Steiner School.

Points of interest
WH Davis writer and poet lived at a series of five different residences at Nailsworth in Gloucestershire. The first of these was the comfortable nineteenth century stone house "Shenstone" and the last the small roadside cottage "Glendower" in the hamlet of Watledge.
Hobbs House Bakery in Nailsworth have been making bread for nearly a century, but have only just produced a secret recipe that allows them to charge £21 a loaf making it Britain's most expensive loaf of bread.
