The delightful and charming environment at Burghfield Mill where you will be surrounded by an area rich in character and diversity. Immediately on your doorstep to the south is a large lake that stretches before you. Quite literally running underneath your doorstep is a small tributary to the River Kennet which flows through a sluice-gate to then re-join with the river to the rear of Burghfield Mill.

Burghfield Mill has a long history. Originally a traditional mill worked by steam and water, its first historical reference appears in the doomsday book as having been part of one of the two manors of Burghfield. In the 12th century during the reign of Henry II, Thomas Burghfield granted the mill to Nicholas, son of Sexus for a yearly rent of 13 shillings and two sticks of eels. In the 1800s the manor passed to Sir John Williams and the site became a paper mill. Paper manufacturing carried on until the original mill burnt down in 1877. The site was the bought by James Dewe of Burghfield Mill who also secured the water rights. The mill then reverted to a corn mill and was last used as a working facility connected with the production of cocoa.
