Is your garden ready for the summer parties?

Is your garden ready for the summer parties?
With the school holidays in full swing, it's the perfect time to welcome another summer-themed blog post from the lovely Deb, who works in our Swindon branch. In today's article Deb teaches you how to ensure your garden is ready and waiting to throw an amazing summer party with all your family and friends!

While the evenings stay warmer and lighter, it's a chance to catch up with friends and family - Al fresco style! And when it comes to outdoor entertaining, just a hint of sunshine brings our trusty (sometimes rusty) BBQ's out and soon that old familiar smell of burning coals fills the air.

But is your outdoor space ready? Here's a few ideas to help get you started...

Lighting - To really achieve a twinkling garden retreat you'll need to vary your lighting. Try solar lights in your flower beds or light up your garden paths. Giant floor lanterns look great in the garden. Just decorate with colourful flowers during the day and swap for candles at night. Attaching mirrors to the fencing with tea lights underneath, your garden will instantly look bigger and brighter.

Another cheap and original option is to take empty tin cans, colour with permanent marker, then punch designs in with a nail. They're easy to make and the effects can be magical.

Seating - Rather than the traditional table and chairs, you could opt for corner furniture that won't take up as much space. Combine with a smaller coffee table-style piece for holding drinks and nibbles and the result is a laid-back outdoor lounge.

If you have an open grass area you could choose a picnic bench-style table that's easy to move around. Waterproof beanbags also go down a treat and create a relaxed space.

Tableware - Is your garden party following a particular theme or are you looking for more general dinnerware options? Your first port of call could be to find inspiration on Pinterest. They have thousands of images that will help give you an idea as to what look or trend you're going for.

Popular choices are nautical and Chinese, but pretty much anything goes, so get creative!

Glazing - Looking ahead to next year, why not consider extending the room that backs onto the garden, or fitting glazed doors into the wall? You'll be surprised how much this can alter the feel of a home, especially if natural light is lacking. Sliding or bi-folding doors make hosting a garden party that little bit easier.

Summer BBQs are so much fun, but sometimes we all need a little time out and a chance to recharge our batteries. Luckily, Deb has also put together a fabulous blog post containing lots of ideas on how to use your garden to nourish your body and soul.
